While in Waikiki, you have to get some Loco Moco – after all, it’s one of the most classic Hawaiian comfort foods. However, with almost every restaurant and food truck offering some, it can be challenging to tell which one is best. Well, that’s why I’ve curated a list of the locals’ – and tourists’ – favorite places to get this delicious beef and egg breakfast dish. 

The best places to get Loco Moco in Waikiki are Liliha Bakery, Rainbow Drive-In, Shorefyre, and Heavenly Island Lifestyle. Liliha has Waikiki’s #1 Loco Moco, while Rainbow Drive-in is a classic. Shorefyre is great for late meals and drinks, and Heavenly Island Lifestyle offers local ingredients.

I’ve vetted all these places, perusing menus, polling the locals, and scouring reviews to see which spots are Waikiki’s favorites. So, without further ado, let’s find a place near you that fits all your wants and needs – and fills your stomach with the best Loco Moco you’ll ever taste.  

Liliha Bakery Waikiki

Liliha Bakery has some of the best reviews in Waikiki. All the locals know that this is the best spot to find Loco Moco with a big patty and perfect, glaze-like gravy with just the right amount of sweetness. 

Liliha Bakery is in the International Market Place in Waikiki, where you can catch live music, a farmers market, luaus, and events before or after dining at Liliha.

Liliha has a classy yet casual bakery atmosphere with indoor and outdoor dining areas. The service is also worth mentioning since the staff there are amazing. They’ll go out of their way to ensure you are happy and comfortable.

They have several options for Loco Moco on their menu, but everyones’ favorite is their Loco Moco with Fried Rice. Their Loco Moco options are all on their breakfast menu, but they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day.  

In addition, their butter rolls are incredible. Try some of the guava jam that comes with them – it’s to die for. Grab some pastries as you head out the door, too. You won’t regret it!

Rainbow Drive-In Kapahulu

The Rainbow Drive-In voted the second-best classic Loco Moco spot in all of Hawaii, is the ultimate place to get Loco Moco in Oahu. It’s been open since 1961 and, from that time, managed to allure locals and tourists alike to get their fill of Hawaiian comfort food.

It’s classic drive-in vibes with no frills. There’s plenty of seating under their outdoor awning, but it’s all open-air. 

Although it’s technically not in Waikiki proper, it’s just 0.6 miles (1 m) from the Honolulu Zoo and 0.8 miles (1.3 km) from Kuhio Beach. So, it’s still within walking distance or just a short drive away from most Waikiki hotels. 

You’ll want to order their Loco Moco Plate while you’re here. It’s their bestseller, and you’ll get two patties, two scoops of rice, and two eggs for an enormous meal. To top it off, you’ll also get some of their famous mac salad on the side. You will likely need a box to finish all that, but don’t worry. It’s just as good the second time around. 

Shorefyre on Koa Ave

Shorefyre is the spot for you if you want a unique Loco Moco that improves on the classic recipe. 

Shorefyre’s Signature 50/50 Loco Moco with ground applewood smoked bacon, Angus chuck, caramelized onions, rice, and two eggs is what any Loco Moco enthusiast needs in their life.  

This bar and grill is less than a block from the shoreline at Kuhio Beach, so it’s the perfect place to go before or after soaking up some sun. Plus, it’s within walking distance of most Waikiki hotels, so it’s a great place to grab some late-night bar food and drinks. 

I’m a huge fan of Shorefyre for its casual but cool atmosphere, complete with shiplap walls, murals, a bar where you can watch the cooks grill up your food, and a shabby-chic outdoor dining area. 

Shorefyre also has a bar with a happy hour from 4 PM to 6 PM, offering local beer, cocktails, and a bar full of liquor. Their refreshing Mai Tais pair perfectly with their rich, filling Loco Moco, so I can’t recommend them enough!

They also have a location at the International Market Place next to Liliha Bakery if you’re on the north side of Waikiki. 

Heavenly Island Lifestyle

If you are discerning about what you eat or want to get a taste of local ingredients, Heavenly Island Lifestyle is the place for you. 

Heavenly Island Lifestyle is a chic, cozy, casual restaurant offering locally and ethically-sourced food. Their Loco Moco has gotten its fair share of critical acclaim from tourist sites and local news sources such as KHON2.

It’s located in Waikiki’s center, just 0.6 miles (1 m) from Waikiki Beach. It’s also right beside Kalakaua Avenue, where you’ll find some of the best shopping in Waikiki. 

This restaurant’s Loco Moco is only available on their breakfast menu, offered from 7 AM to 2 PM. So, head here for breakfast, brunch, or lunch to fill up before walking around Waikiki for the day. 

Aside from their Loco Moco, made with locally sourced beef and eggs, they have tons of healthy, organic, and filling options on their menu. 

Their breakfast pho and french toast are two of their other best-sellers, and they offer some great coffee, fresh veggie and fruit juice, and smoothies.
